St Leo’s Catholic College, Wahroonga were the proud recipients of a generous and particularly heartfelt donation recently.

Waugh family fullThe Waugh family of Hornsby Heights and their grandmother Jennifer Timewell attended a performance by the College Band as special guests to unveil the gift.

Their late grandfather, Greg Timewell had always wanted to be a drummer. At 73, he purchased a drumkit and started lessons shortly before his passing in 2019. The family wanted the kit to be loved and well used so decided to donate it to St Leo’s in his honour.

Mrs Jennifer Waugh said she was so pleased that her father’s kit would not just be gathering dust in storage, but that it would again have a real sense of purpose and usefulness.

Principal Mr Anthony Gleeson received the gift on the College’s behalf, which has been inscribed with the family’s name.

"It will be a part of music student journeys from keen beginners to HSC compositions," said Mr Gleeson. "Drumkits don’t just sit there - as they are walked past, they are tapped and tinkered with, even played! They are irresistible - particularly for students."

"On behalf of the St Leo’s community, I would like to acknowledge and thank the Waugh family for their touching gift to the College which will bring joy to many."
