Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019
A NSW bill to legalise abortion
Update: The bill was passed by the NSW Parliament on 26 September 2019 with amendments. The name of the bill was changed to the Abortion Law Reform Bill.
Many are aware that a bill to legalise abortion was passed in the NSW Lower House on 8 August, and will become law if the Upper House votes the same way. The bill is formally, the Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019. If this bill is passed, it would allow abortion right up until birth, and require doctors to be involved, either by performing the procedure or referring to someone who will.
This is a difficult topic, however, the Church always has a message of mercy for those who have been involved in abortion.
Whilst this law claims to be pro-choice, in reality, abortion is a decision women make when they feel they have no other choice.
This law is extreme, and provides no real protection or choices for mothers or the child. We have a brief window of time to petition the Upper House to say 'no' to this bill. Two years ago, a similar bill was produced. Through a miracle at that time, 56,000 signatures were collected and the bill did not make it through the Upper House. Let us not give up on this fight now. There is still time.
An Upper House inquiry into the bill was published on 20 August and can be accessed at the link below.
You can sign a petition against the bill at the back of the church until 18 August. Additionally, through prayer and fasting we can pray for our politicians to make choices that stand for the life and love that everyone deserves.
