Fr Chris Riley of Youth Off The Streets
Fr Chris Riley AM, Founder of Youth Off The Streets, has moved into respite care after receiving treatment in hospital for diabetes-related complications. Fr Riley was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2019 and has recently experienced periods of ill-health.
On the advice of his doctors, Fr Riley moved from hospital to respite care where he will have ongoing access to health professionals. Fr Riley’s recent illness has prompted him to consider options for managing his health in the long term. He has worked tirelessly over many decades to help young people in need, and we are hopeful that the support he’s now receiving will continue to improve his health and allow him to tend to his own wellbeing.
Youth Off The Streets services and programs continue to operate as normal under its management team led by the CEO, Ms Lex Nadine Lutherborrow.
Fr Riley founded Youth Off The Streets in 1991 and served as CEO until 2020 when he moved into the role of Founder and Executive Director on the organisation’s Board.
Youth Off The Streets is a leading non-denominational community organisation dedicated to providing at-risk young Australians with safety, support and opportunities to reach their full potential. Youth Off The Streets assist young people aged 12 to 25 who are experiencing homelessness, abuse, neglect, exclusion from school and other forms of disadvantage. Youth Off The Streets has provided services for thousands of homeless and disadvantaged young Australians over the last thirty years.
Since opening in 1991, Youth Off The Streets has grown from a single food van delivering meals to young homeless people on the streets of Kings Cross to a major youth-specific agency offering over 30 programs and services. These range from crisis accommodation and counselling to accredited independent high schools and a youth employment service.
For more than 23 years, the Pymble Parish community has operated a program delivering homemade frozen meals to the Youth Off The Streets program.
