Changes to NSW Coronavirus Procedures 15 May 2020
In NSW from Friday, 15 May 2020, provided we adhere to the social distancing rule of four square metres per person and hand hygiene procedures through the use of sanitiser:
- Churches may open for private prayer, with a limit of 10 people in the church at any one time.
- Religious gatherings, formal or informal, may take place inside churches for groups of not more than 10 people. The names and contact details of each person attending must be recorded in a central register (should contact tracing be required).
- Weddings may include a group of 10 people in addition to the couple and the celebrant.
- Funerals may include groups of 20 people indoors or 30 people if outside.
In all circumstances, we must adhere to the social distancing rule of four square metres per person and hand hygiene procedures through the ready use of sanitiser at church entrances.
Importantly, these new conditions can allow the Sacrament of Penance to be celebrated by including a fixed grill or divider to implement social distancing.
These new conditions do not allow the “normal” celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
