Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Precautionary Adjustments
Coronavirus is a respiratory illness caused by a new virus first reported from Wuhan China on Tuesday, 31 December 2019. Symptoms range from a mild cough to pneumonia. Some people recover easily, others may become very sick very quickly. There is evidence that it spreads from person to person. Good hygiene can prevent infection.
In light of coronavirus and the possibility of virus transmission, the following precautionary adjustments have been made for our Pymble churches:
- When exchanging the Sign of Peace, we will avoid shaking hands but say “Peace be with you” and offer a smile, wave, nod or bow.
- Holy Water will not be avalable from stoups at the doors.
- Holy Communion will not be available from the Chalice.
- Holy Communion will only be administered in the hand.
- All ministers of Holy Communion will continue to take particular care to wash their hands before and after distributing.
Before attending a public liturgical celebration, you should consider your own health and any potential to infect others with a contagious condition. If you are too unwell to attend Sunday mass due to coronavirus or any other condition, or are at particular risk of contracting a virus, you can honour your Sunday obligation by participating in a time of prayer within your home, reading the Scriptures or watching mass on television or online.
Should you become seriously ill, priests will continue to ensure that the sacraments and other appropriate pastoral care is available.
