CatholicCare and community – combating homelessness together
Homelessness Week 2023 is 7-13 August 2023.
Over the weekend of 5-6 August 2023, we seek your support for an envelope appeal to raise funds for the homelessness services offered by CatholicCare Broken Bay.
CatholicCare Broken Bay is the social care agency of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Broken Bay.
There is no place like home. But for many, having a home is not possible. The causes may be diverse, but the impact is the same – a loss of dignity and a sense of hopelessness.
Few people choose to be homeless and the longer a person remains homeless, the more difficult it is to return to a mainstream environment. Just as Mary MacKillop saw a need and did something about it, CatholicCare works tirelessly to support people who are homeless or need a helping hand. CatholicCare offers a raft of services to help.
CatholicCare provides a women’s refuge, transitional accommodation options, young parent’s homelessness services and street sleeping outreach support. CatholicCare also operate Dom’s Place in Hornsby and Mary Mac’s in Woy Woy providing meals, a place to shower and wash clothes, and somewhere for people who are homeless or transient to be welcome and to connect with support and community.
Many people who access CatholicCare services are lonely, and when they walk through the door they can frequently be simply seeking a listening ear.
CatholicCare strategic services include:
- Women's Refuge
- Transitional Accommodation and Casework Support
- Keys - Young Parents Homelessness Service
- Street Sleeping Outreach Support
- Mary Mac's Place Woy Woy
- Dom's Place Hornsby
Donation envelopes will be available in the churches on the weekend of 5-6 August 2023.
