Parish Schools
Catechetics
Our Catechists bring Special Religious Education to Catholic children in our 5 local State Primary Schools:
- Hornsby South Public School
- Normanhurst Public School
- Normanhurst West Public School
- Thornleigh West Public School
- Waitara Public School
Our team of Catechists are given training, manuals, activity books, music CD’s, and other support to make this a wonderful experience for the children and the Catechist. This rewarding discipleship does not require an in-depth knowledge of Catholic doctrines as you have manuals. You bring your deep love of Jesus and love for teaching children. It takes a little of your time to prepare and give your lesson once a week. We want to share this gift of spending time with children who want to learn about Jesus. Please consider this invitation to come and see what we do as Catechists and see if God is calling you to share the good news with these children.
Catechists are required to obtain a Working with Children Check. Application is free for volunteers.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Every Sunday during school term at 9.30am in CatholicCare playgroup building, behind Cathedral courtyard through gate. This is a great opportunity for your child aged between 4 to 10 to come and join other children to learn and grow in their faith through learning about the Gospel in a child focused way. We are in need of more volunteers to join the team. Anyone 18 years or older must obtain a Working with Children Check. Application is free for volunteers.
Sacramental Preparation Team
We have a team of volunteers who assist the parents to prepare their children to receive the sacraments of Confirmation, Penance and Eucharist. If you would like to join this team, please contact the Parish Office.
The Sacramental Coordinator’s duties include ensuring that members of the parish are informed about when the Sacramental Ceremonies are occurring, contacting members from schools, organising registration days, helping with music, readings etc. at the Ceremony, answering questions about the Sacraments and liaising with the Diocesan Team.
