What is Baptism?
Baptism is the first Sacrament of initiation into the Catholic Faith where Christ welcomes you into new life with him and you become a member of his Body, the Church. You become Christian.
At Baptism, the person to be Baptised is immersed in water or water is poured over the head three times. While this is happening, the baptismal words which Jesus has instructed us to say are said by the priest:
N., I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Other symbols of Baptism are the anointing with Chrism, a blessed oil; the clothing is a white garment; and the lighting of a baptismal candle.
What do I do to have my child Baptised?
Being a parent comes with many responsibilities when it comes to raising a child. We have many hopes and dreams for our children, and we want to give them the best possible start in life.
Whether your child is an infant or older and you would like to have your child Baptised in the Catholic faith we encourage you to contact our parish office to make an appointment with either the Parish Priest or a member of the pastoral staff. At this appointment you can discuss the steps to take for your child to be Baptised in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
