Friends of St Augustine

Friends Australian logoInspired by the wealth of spiritual wisdom about the Christian life, parishes under the care of the Augustinians have fostered the formation of a movement called Friends of St Augustine, whose aim is to learn more about the spirituality of St Augustine.

Many of us wonder – How can I live my faith? How can I be an authentic Christian in today’s world? Friends of St Augustine provide the opportunity for St Augustine to help guide us to an answer whilst sharing friendship with others who share this goal.

One of the joys of being part of an Augustinian Parish is that our parishioners are frequently nourished spiritually with a selection of thoughts drawn from the rich heritage left behind by St Augustine of Hippo (354-430), one the Fathers of the Church. Along with St Paul, St Augustine’s works were quoted more often in the documents of the 2nd Vatican Council than those of any other saint, bearing witness both to the currency of his thoughts and the enduring legacy he bestowed upon the Church.

Friends of Saint Augustine is an association for people in Australia who seek participation in spirituality and in particular Augustinian spirituality with a desire to formalise their connection with the Augustinian world family.

In our busy world many people feel disconnected from their community and from each other. St Augustine of Hippo promoted personal and communal spirituality. He asks us to be attentive to our hearts where God dwells and to our community; by being of service to each other so as to contribute to the creation of a better society.

Augustine's spirituality has been a great medicine for people since the 4th Century and we believe it is still relevant to the needs of today. It is because of his spirituality and in response to our modern needs that Augustinian Friends was formed.

Life and Friendship
Both should be highly prized and we must not undervalue them.
Life and friendship are nature’s gift.”
