Anointing of the Sick

When a Catholic is very sick, they are anointed with oil in a special ritual of healing called Anointing of the Sick.

Through this rite, the Church continues the healing ministry of Jesus. When the person is anointed, they receive healing through forgiveness of sins, inner peace, hope, assurance of God's steadfast love, and even sometimes physical healing.

While in the past, Anointing was often kept only for those near death, in more recent times the Church has encouraged the Sacrament to be used in cases of serious illness. The Sacrament of Anointing has importance for the whole Church, as it reminds us of our call to wholeness and to be a sign of salvation to the world.

Anointing can take place during a weekday Mass, before surgery or medical treatment, and at other times by requesting a priest. You can do this by contacting our parish office on 9949 4455.

Our parish holds several Anointing Masses throughout the year, and dates can be found here.
