St. Vincent De Paul Society

st_vincent_de_paul_logoThe role of the society is well known and respected in Australia and there are two groups, known as Conferences, active in the parish, one for each of the Manly Vale and Balgowlah areas.

The Mission Statement of the society explains that it is a lay Catholic organisation which aspires to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.

The Conferences offer practical help to those needy people in our local area, perhaps with food, clothing, furniture or help with costs of services. The concept is to offer a “hand up” not a handout. We do this by respecting their dignity, sharing our hope and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny.

Conference members make home visits in pairs on a roster system, responding to calls for assistance received by Vinnies Brookvale Centre. Regular Conference meetings are held and new members are very welcome.
