Faith & Education
Adult Faith Formation
A variety of opportunities for adult education in faith is provided each year. They include:
- Lenten Discussion Groups. A number of Discussion Groups are arranged in the Parish during Lent for parishioners to come together to discuss and reflect on the coming week’s Scriptures.
- Our Scripture Reflection Group meets each Friday after the 9:30am Mass at Carlingford to focus on the Scriptures for Mass the following weekend (see ‘Scripture Study’ below for more details).
- Occasional speakers. In addition to these regular programmes, we may have a series of talks by a visiting speaker or a member of staff on a topic of faith formation.
- The Parish Library is a rich resource for reading material for on-going faith education (see ‘Parish Library’ below for more details).
Each year a programme of events is prepared as part of the on-going adult education focus in the parish. The events are usually announced during Mass and advertised on our website and social media with sign-up sheets at the back of both churches when the time comes.
Parish Library
The Parish Library is currently located in the crying room at the rear of Carlingford Church. There is a wide range of contemporary books available for borrowing by parishioners. Books include such topic areas as biographies/Saints, Social Justice, Church, Ecumenism, Family/Personal Issues, Christian Belief/theology, Sacramental Life, Prayer/Spirituality, Scripture and children’s books. The Epping development does not allow us to have a library at this stage but this will change as the development progresses and enables a library facility.
How to Borrow a Book
To borrow a book, please see the available borrowing information and proceed from there. A maximum of three books can be borrowed at any one time and may be borrowed for up to a month.
Scripture Study
The Scripture Study Group meets each Friday at Carlingford (except December and January) and includes a short Scripture study and discussion to reflect on the Scripture passages for the coming Sunday. This takes place immediately after the morning 9:30am Mass and concludes by 10:40am.
For further information, please contact the Parish Office.
Special Religious Education Teachers [Catechists]
Better known as Catechists, our Special Religious Education Teachers are entrusted with the religious education of Catholic students in our local Government Primary and Secondary Schools in our two communities. Sharing our faith with our children and young people is a rewarding experience. Volunteers are always welcome.
If you are interested in becoming an SRE teacher (catechist) or helper, or if you would like some more information, please contact the Parish Office, who will put you in touch with one of the Catechist Co-Ordinators.
